Food changes relationship: the salty food and the natural taste food


“You eat too salty, try some vegetables here.” I still remembered that my mum always complained that father eats too salty while talking with my grandparents. In my family now, only my father enjoy salty food but others prefer the natural taste. Mum doesn’t like putting too much salt and she never uses monosodium glutamate while cooking. Dad doesn’t like the food without strong taste and he said this kind of food can’t help him eating more rice at all. They have argued for several times about the taste of food and asked me for idea. I stand for my mother now even I prefer staying with my father when I was young.
Fathers are usually busy men. So my dad is. In my mind, he almost never went home for dinner even weekends. Dad is a business man now and he has his own company about construction. As being the boss of the company, he has too much work to do and a lot of people to meet. Although they meet in the experience and magnificent restaurants and hotels, the food is not as good as the one we eat at home. Cooks put a lot of monosodium glutamates to make the food delicious and they use the heavy ways to cook the food into hot, salty and spicy taste. It is not good news at all, because in some place, the cooks use bad materials to cook in this way. Since the taste is very heavy, some food which may go bad can’t be tasted easily. Even all the restaurants that they go to are prefect but eating monosodium glutamates or too much salt is not good for the health either. In my mum’s word, “why not eating more food instead of salt and monosodium glutamates?” It seems like a joke but I think she is right. Dad’s taste is becoming a bad habit which may reduce the ability of taste in some other food. For example, after eating some mangos, you may found oranges are not sweet at all but very sour. It’s like the tongue is comparing with the things that you have already eaten. While eating too much salty food, it’s getting harder for a tongue to feel some delicious taste which is not so strong but feels good. Possibly, it’s a kind of failure of the function of a tongue. The food that dad outside is usually magnificent with a lot of meat and fish because dad needs to meet others so that they can help them going on some programmers on the business. The lack of the vegetable is a big problem in his daily life. Dad was told that he had some illness like hyperlipidemia and hypertension. Most of the problem is the carelessness of the diet and some details in daily life just like the taste.
I also enjoyed the spicy and strong state food in the past especially when I was a young boy. I didn’t eating the food cooked by mum every day because she has to work until 6 pm in evening so there is no time for mum to cook. I stayed in my grandparent’s home instead. Grandma is a good cook but not as good as mum in my mind. Working for government is a tough work without a high payment. However, I can go to eat in the dining hall with my father. Moreover, dad also took me to some restaurant even eating fast food like McDonalds and Pizza Hut. When I was eleven, something unlucky happened; mum was hurt in a car accident. Fortunately, my mum is still alive but she needed a long period of time to recover. During this period of time, dad usually brought me outside to eat and my taste was totally changed. I was going to be the man eating different kinds of salty things just like my father now. In the first days after my mum came back, I first thought her food was so tasteless and it hurt my mum’s heart. Later on, I just fit the taste and getting comfortable with that. Because of the work, dad still needs to eat outside and getting worse after starting his own business.
Now, even eating a bowl of rice, dad needs some special spicy sauce for him but mum and I just eating with some dishes. In my hometown Suzhou, there are too much delicious food like the lake crabs, white shrimps and white fish. We have our special cooking methods making special tastes. Even a bowl of noodle, it is quite different from the noodles in any other city in China. After studying abroad, I missed Chinese food so much so that I went to a lot of Chinese restaurants here. However, it is not the real Chinese food; Chinese students can taste the difference clearly. They used monosodium glutamate and too much salt in cooking and can’t get the real delicious taste from the food. After eating, it’s easy to feel thirsty because of the wrong way of cooking. Salt can absorb the water, so the reason of getting thirsty is too much salt. Moreover, the best point that my mum’s food has is never getting thirsty.
