Mothers and the Culture of food

In the short writing “Home Run: My Journey Back to Korean Food” which is written by Ahn and “Eating white” by Nicholson, both of the authors pointed out the culture between the different types of food especially the Korean food and they talked a lot about the influence that their mothers made on their food. In the “My Journey Back to Korean Food”, the author was a Korean which grow up in the United State. He has the dream of becoming a baseball player and enjoying American food like the ice cream, but stopped by his mother. That’s the culture of food which can’t be easy and comfortable to combine them into one. The author mentioned there were two fridges in the past: one for Korean food and one for American food but after growing up and his mother’s death, he used one fridge instead. In “Eating White”, the author and his father prefer meat but his mother like white food which is much fresher and healthier. It also metioned that mother always had some snacks or afternoon tea but actually save the meat for us instead . Both of these two articles are talking about the thoughts of the authors about eating after the death of their mother. I found that my mother prevent me from eating fast food when I was young. I love fast food because of the tasty and the convenience like McDonald, Pizza Hut and KFC which were popular in China while I was young. I know that’s American food but after growing up I found my mother is true. I can’t stand the American food especially coming to the United States. I miss my mother’s cooking while studying abroad because I used to eating the food which cooked by my mother. Sometimes it’s like I want to get something new or fresh so I go out to try food from other places. In China, vegetables are always on the table since they are always healthy and the vegetables are cooked so they are always tastes better that the salad. Chinese food is complicated but more suitable for me. I didn’t want to eat fast food even before coming to the US.

The Last Meal

The last meal I had was the dinner last night. I enjoy the Chinese food in my friends’ dorm room on the eighth floor of the Centennial hall. I spent the whole day sleeping in my room without eating anything so I was so hungry at that time. After waking up, I made a phone call to my friend Jiadong and asked him about the dinner. I was told that his roommate Jingbo brought some Chinese food from Jason’s Thai and there was still a lot left. I rushed to his room after brushing my teeth and started eating. The food is magnificent with rice and meats. I found port, duck and chicken there and the food smelled great. There were some drinks in his room which is not sweet but natural and healthy. The food is too much so I did not eat it all. I was chatting with them while having the dinner about the new classes and our plans cause it is the last day of the spring quarter. However, another friend called me to go to eat with him after I finishing eating and getting back to my room. I went with him but just ordered a bottle of Thai tea since I was already full. He shared some food with me and I like the fruit there. It helped a lot as I didn’t eat a lot of vegetables.
